Welcome to this step-by-step guide on creating a Laser-Cut Illuminated Pattern Box with a customizable sliding mechanism!
This project combines craft and design to create a beautiful, functional piece that can be personalized to match your style or needs.
Whether you're looking for a unique decorative item for your home or simply want to explore the art of laser cutting,
this box offers a creative and hands-on experience.
The key feature of this design is the ability to swap out different patterns using the sliding panel mechanism.
This means you can change the look of the box at any time by sliding in a new panel with a different pattern.
You'll use a laser cutter to create intricate designs on the box panels, and the internal lighting will bring them to life,
casting beautiful shadows and adding ambiance to any room.
In this guide, we'll take you through the materials, tools, and steps needed to create your own illuminated pattern box.
Whether you're a beginner or more experienced with laser cutting, you’ll find the instructions easy to follow, and by the end,
you’ll have a one-of-a-kind piece that you can display and enjoy. Let’s get started on crafting your customizable illuminated pattern box!
Materials:
0.2 Inch Thick Wood
Hot Glue
Electric Candle
Tools:
Laser Cutter
Hot Glue Gun
Using hot glue, glue the U shaped piece onto the front panel with the cutout in the middle.
Make sure that the U shaped piece lines up with the top of the bottom slots as shown above.
Next, glue the rails on top of the U shaped piece, making sure that they line up with the sides and bottom of the U shaped piece.
After that, rotate the base piece until it's long side is facing towards you.
Vertically insert the back panel into the slots and secure it with hot glue. Do the same for the other panels except inserting them to the right and left of the back panel.
Next, secure left and right panels to the base and to the back panel with hot glue.
Glue in the front panel just as you did to the back panel, except making sure that the track is facing inwards.
Make sure that all of these
pieces are aligned.
Next, slide in your chosen pattern along the rails.
you can change the
pattern as many times as you would like because all you have to do is
slide out the old pattern and put in a new one.
This allows you to customize this box as much as you would like!
Next, align the lid with the slots in the panels and firmly secure it on. Do not glue it.
If you glue it down, the pattern won't be able to slide out so that you can replace it with a new one.
Next, take an electric candle and place it inside the box. I do not suggest using a real one because the box could catch on fire.
At night, the patterns really do look amazing with the light.
With the sliding mechanism, I was able to try out all of the designs without taking anything apart.
Congratulations, you've just completed your very own laser cut illuminated pattern box with a customizable sliding mechanism!
This project not only adds a stunning visual element to any space but also allows you to personalize the design to your liking.
Whether you're using it as a nightlight or a decorative piece,
the ability to swap out different patterns adds a creative touch that can evolve with your mood or the seasons.
By mastering the laser cutting process and the mechanics of the sliding panel,
you've gained new skills that can be applied to countless other projects.
The beauty of this design lies in its simplicity and versatility—allowing you to experiment with different materials, lighting effects,
and design elements. Don’t be afraid to push the boundaries of your creativity, and remember that this is just the beginning.
and happy crafting!

I am a beginner at CNC, I’ve never used a CNC machine before and with in a day I was carving. An awesome machine for a beginner to learn as hobbyists. I used the manual and the help video. One hour to assemble and test, very friendly and easy to use. It’s a good buy for the money. I would definitely recommend this machine to someone getting into CNCs.
